First off, I've been long hesitant on making this known to this group
because I know some of you prefer hand carved stamps. I don't want
to seem crass or as some kind of spammer. I don't often visit these
forums because I just can't stand the Yahoo! mechanism. I'm also a
geocacher, but got started through letterboxing.

Anyway, I make commercial-grade stamps. I'm an engraver with access
to a laser engraver and I burn my own stamps. All of my boxes have
been converted over to hybrids and most of the my geocaches even have
stamps. The locals got interested and word got around of some of the
other things I do so I added stamps to my little shop, too.

See it here http://www.sissy-n-cr.com/store.shtml Scroll to near the
bottom of the page.

Because my stamps are created through the computer they do lack
the "feel" of a traditional, hand-carved stamp. I can create
extremely fine detail, even halftones. I've done signatures and hand
drawn art which look more like handcarved, but you can still they are
not. The kicker is, I can reproduce images of handcarved stamps,
even--of course, each one will be the exact same--just make and
impression and send it to me.

You see, I'm the type of person who likes both letterboxing AND
geocaching. I have a foot in both worlds. Old school and new.

I offer my services to those who wish to use it.

If the list owners wish to delete this message, I can understand.
I'm not here to make a bunch of money, just help out.

Thanks for the info. I do think boxers and cachers
need to cooperate. I like the idea of hybrid boxes. As
for hand carved stamps. I enjoy the process of carving
even though I'm not great. A laser ingraver! I'd like
to add that to my art supplies.

Sissy,

THANK YOU for making this known. At $3 a stamp, it is obvious you're not doing this to get rich. I've spent a lot of time looking online for custom stamp makers; maybe I'm typing in the wrong keywords, but I have not found any that do images (just words)...and i don't have the time or patience to look at dozens of websites to find exactly what I'm looking for. Those who do, or are more savvy than I am at searching, are free to choose whomever they want. But I thank you for coming forward -- I've bookmarked your site and will probably be contacting you in the future!

One of the advantages about living in nyc is that if I want to I can find anything. There are a couple of places here that say they can re-create any image for a stamp. I haven't check them out yet. The first two boxes I planted in Texas had commercial stamps because I wanted to get them :::planted::: and I felt like I was bogged down in trying to find out about carving, learning how, etc. Except for my personal stamp, the few others I have done have been by hand. They aren't works of art, but pretty cool.

I feel that if you can find a truly unique and cool commercial stamp, or have one made, go for it. Hand-carved or not, it's the fun of letterboxing that counts. There are a couple of places here that sell awesome and totally unique stamps that are "hand made" commercially stamp artists, none of who carve directly onto the rubber, according to what I have read in my searching.
